Charles Bridge construction started in 1357 and was completed in early XV century. Is 515 meters long and 9.50 meters wide, has 16 pillars (with heights between 16 and 23 yards) and paving is 13 feet above the river Vltava.
Since 1657 a unique street statues developed along the bridge. Initially, statues were actually some crosses and in 1657 was brought even a gilded bronze cross. Golgoth monuments, Virgin and St John the Evangelist worried were added in the seventeenth century. Cross between the 6th and 7th pillar marks the spot where, according to legend, a holy body was thrown into the Vltava.
