Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore is an authentic jewel full of beauty of inestimable value. One of the particular traits of the church in the Renaissance-style ceiling decorated with gold brought by Columbus from the New World. Red columns, rich with delicate bronze medals are Ferdinando Fuga's masterpiece. But most valuable pieces are the preserved mosaics from the fifth century in the church nave.
