Villasimius is a small village, beautifully located in the south-east of Sardinia, in the Cagliari province , at about 35 km far from the Cagliari. Passing over the village centre, on the right, you will see the large Campulongu beach appearing in the Capo Carbonara gulf, where you might often come across cormorants.
Along the road to Capo Carbonara, you will come at the marina, recently renovated and modernised for the needs of those yachtsmen who choose their boats as a means of transport in this majestic paradise. On the left, you will find the beautiful Simius beach, famous for the sea's warm temperature. This is due to the area's morphology, protected from the sea currents, beautifully decorated with marine animals and plants.

Anyway starting from the capital, you will walk along the coast road, which offers breathtaking views and picturesque landscapes with the beaches of white sand, the precious colours and transparency of the water, the rugged coves, the wild vegetation which, proudly, surrounds and protects everything.
Villasimius was once a small village of fishermen and shepherds, but, since the 60s, there has been a substantial boost to tourism, until it was transformed into one of the most popular holiday centres in Sardinia. The superb beaches and breathtaking landscapes of the picturesque old fishing village of Villasimius attract increasing numbers of tourists each summer. The centre of activity here is the square where people of all ages come in the evening. The Fortezza Vecchia , the old fortress, which dates from the 17th century, is the most promenint structure in the harbour and it is now the scene of the art exhibitions organized by an international art centre. The Capo Carbonara nearby,affords an enchanting panoramic view of the sea. The area features small beaches and coves, as well as long beaches – ideal for sunbathing and swimming.
The boat trips to the offshore islands are available from the new harbour. There are also scuba diving excursions by sunken ships off the coast. The Villasimius area, which has been declared as a marine nature preserve, is very famous among divers for its rich variety of marine flora and fauna, that presents unique species.
In Villasimius and also in the surrounding area there are archaeological ruins of Phoenician culture, and Roman necropolises. Spiaggia del Riso, a very long area of about 54 square kilometers , features stone age tombs carved into the rock face, and many individual, nuraghi and a so-called giant’s tomb.
This village is a small paradise of lively nightlife in July and August, and it has a plentiful supply of hotels, restaurants, pizzerias and boutiques, that offer great spots for relaxation and entertainment.
