  Fairbanks is the second largest city in Alaska and perfectly combines the modern amenities and technology with a frontier atmosphere, considered as the gateway to the Arctic, featuring stunning landscapes. Fairbank has a very interesting history which belong to the late 1880’s Gold Rush. Is one of the most famous research center in the world, that studies about the Aurora Borealis.   Before the construction of Alaska Highway and the introduction of the state in the Union as the 49th state, the city of Fairbanks was an energetic mining town, situated in the middle of the largest territories of the union. The Italian immigrant Felix Pedro was discovering gold in this place in 1902,  and in 1903 the city was incorporated by a 75% majority vote. This small boomtown, after more than one hundred years became a very important centre, for economy, which was very various, with oil, gas, gold, coal mining, military and tourism. So Fairbanks continues its role serving as a hub and gateway to the Alaska’s Interior and Arctic.

 

 

  Fairbanks, also called “The Golden Heart City” features hot summers, cold winters, delicate attractions that are available the year-round, and with the most incredible phenomens as the Aurora Borealis and the Northern lights. In March ice sculptors from all the corners of the world, gather here and take over the town with majestic ice constructions. This ice celebration is featuring award ceremonies, ice carving demonstrations, ice skating and special playground equipment made only of ice.   Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl  Refuge represents a huge refuge of about 2,000 acres, which started its life as a dairy farm during the Gold Rush. Nowadays, the migratory and residents birds visit the refuge, these are Canada geese, sandhill cranes, pintails, golden plovers, shovelers, ravens, owls. To the opened spaces and wildlife are added the nature trails, covering about five miles. The farm buildings appear on the list of the National Register of Historic Places. The spectacular trails are opened everyday and hold special interesting events. The tourists can also see in Fairbanks the Fairbanks Ice Museum, which display the creations of ice art in a slide show. The museum offers tours of sculptures and wonderful ice carving demonstrations. The Georgeson Botanical Garden is another natural masterpiece that offers the city.
