   Munch Museum in Oslo is a veritable treasure for the city, being a great spot for the art lovers, for those who enjoy to spend the time surrounded by valuable pieces of art. This gorgeous museum was buit in the honor of Edvard Munch, who was a great painter. He has a notable position among the painters of the North Europe, and is considered a pioneer of the expressionism style. After his death, the city of Oslo decided to built a center which will gather all his notable works, because his art works are really unique and precious for the society.

  Munch Museum includes a vast collection of paintings, graphical prints and drawings, that is about 1,200 paintings, 4,500 drawings, 18,000 prints, 6 sculptures, added to the lithographic stones, woodcut block, and a large collection of notes, books, newspapers and other documents that mark his existence. The sister of the artist, Inger, donated to the museum several paintings and drawings, also his precious correspondence. So at the end it resulted a great collection from where the visitors of the museum can find and explore more about the artist’s life and work. The Oslo City Council decided to built a museum dedicated to Munch in 1946, in that way to make sure that the public will benefit from the material that was collected. It was organized an architectural competition for the construction of the structure, and the museum was officialy opened to the  public on 29 May 1963.

   The space for exhibits was covered about 1,150 square metres, including a lecture hall, which can be used for organization of the temporary exhibitions. In the space dedicated to the exhibition, which cover one whole floor, is displaying only a small part of the collection, because they intend to make the exhibits various all the time, with more and more attractive works. The museum includes a Print Gallery, which boats a special exhibition”Edvard Munch 1895-his first year as a graphic artist”, which includes over 150 pieces of art, that belong to the artist. One more important exhibition is “Edvard Munch and Henrik Ibsen”, displayed in the West Wing of the Museum. The Museum provides the visitors with audio tours in Norwegian or in English, and also a permanent documentary exhibition.
