General Information
The main activities in Geirangerfjord are hiking, fishing, or renting boats and kayaks, but depends on the weather. These dramatic fjords are the grandest proud of the country, with rivers that run between them, that are simple, not yet developed for hydroelectric power. The Geirangerfjord has a area of about 60 km inland, ending at Storfjord. It includes two branches: Sunnylvsfjord, with Geirangerfjord branch, and Norddalsfjord with Tafjord as a branch. This branch is surrounded by mountains of about 1,600-1,700 m high, forming glacial lakes. The mountains of the Geirangerfjord are more alpine, the block fields are more prevalent, and the glaciers are only on the highest altitude. From the geological point of view the area is well developed for a lanscaped fjord area and are perfect examples of young and active glaciation. The surface of the high mountain was easily undulating, dissected by rivers. The courses of the rivers were widened 20,000 years ago, during the Ice Age.
