Toronto is located on the north bank of the river Ontario. The tallest CNTower in the world is located here in this magnificent city. Its reflection in the lake is unmistakable and simply amazing. Around the tower there is a collection of skyscrapers, which leave space for residential areas, parks and green spaces.
The provincial capital of Ontario, Toronto is Canada's largest city and the fifth largest city in North America. It is a dominant force in business and economy. Toronto is the cultural center of English-speaking Canada. Initially claimed by the French in the eighteenth century, the American Revolution of loyal groups of the United Empire fled to Toronto. Then known as York City, it was a predominant British character, functioning as the administrative center of English Canada. In 1834 the city was renamed Toronto, a Huron Indian word meaning "meeting place".
In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Toronto was a city under the law, which makes the rules, which were rarely broken and the main concern was to improve economy . As a result, Toronto earned a reputation enclaved to Protestantism. The older residents still remember the days when the work was stopped in the town every Sunday and only a few restaurants served wine. In the late 1950s a new wave of city immigrants brought new foods, new idioms and, most important, new attitudes. Italians, Portuguese and Eastern Europeans arrived the first , followed by immigrants from the Caribbean, Asia and India. They had established in places that became the city's great ethnic neighborhoods - Greek Quarter, Little Italy and Chinatown. Toronto increased and become a multiethnic society, although it keeps some vestiges and the English pubs and clubs have the habit of a toast in the name of the Queen before eating.
The architecture and the town can see an overlap - at first glance the city seems very different from any other large American city, but at a closer look you can see the Victorian and the Edwardian buildings. Toronto today is an animated and cultural place, with hot summers and cold winters. This is the most important city in Canada. It is Canada's most economical city, a center of finance, media services and it hosts more corporations than any other city in the world. At night, the locals provide restaurants, bars and clubs, opera and theaters. But above all, the city is characterized by the locals as friendly, efficient and multi-cultural.
