  The Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is a very old region with a lot of unique places and magnificent views. Monument Valley is located along the Utah/Arizona border towards the southeast corner of Utah. The valley lies entirely within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation. In the Monument Valley you can see breathtaking buttes, mesas, canyons, and free standing rock formations that will amaze you with its stunning beauty.  This grandiose place was created as material eroded from the ancestral Rocky Mountains, and was deposited and cemented into sandstone. The main things that define this desert region are the unique sandstone formations, the Navajo Indian Nation and the Four Corners Monument.

If you want to see all of these monuments there is a special point where you can easily see almost the entire area. This point is called Lookout Point.  Here are also good views across three of the valley's most photographed peaks - East and West Mitten Buttes, and Merrick Butte. The view from Lookout Point is stunning enough, but most of the Navajo Tribal Park can only be seen from the Valley Drive. From here you can see Totem Pole - an oft-photographed spire of rock 450 feet high but only a few meters wide. As well as Totem Pole, this area also has ancient cave and cliff dwellings, natural arches and petroglyphs, all generally away from the Valley Drive at more isolated locations.
