  The connection between the buildings is making through a tunnel, and the architectural style of the buildings is different. The West Building was the first one, that is designed by John Russel Pope, who had also designed the Jefferson Memorial, later on. He used for that building a neo-classical style, creating a large dome and columned portico, inspired from the Pantheon. This building is the home for works dating since 19th century, includind arts of the European and american artists, since the medieval period. Because it was created later, the East Building reflect a modern style. It houses the most beautiful modern and contemporary collections. The building was designed by I.M.Pei, who has built it in a geometrical form, representing prisms that are molded together to create the whole building.
