Chisinau City Hall
Chisinau City Hall it’s an historical and architectural monument of national importance, entered in the register of monuments of history and culture by initiative of the Chisinau Academy of Sciences. Chisinau City Hall is a fairly old building and even if it was built many years ago, its charm remains nowadays. It is one of the few architectural monuments which attracts the attention of tourists on the spot. City Hall is located in downtown along with other great monuments of national importance.
The building that is hosting nowadays the City Hall, was built in the late of nineteenth century and was hosting “Duma city hall” or “State Duma”. The design was entrusted then to Mitrofan Ellada the city most known architect then. To her aid was called A.I. Bernardazzi. The building architecture is in Eclectic spirit based on Italian Renaissance architecture.
Duma’s headquarters building was completed in 1902. During the Second World War the building was heavily damaged, was rebuilt after the war based on some photos of the building.
The building, built in two levels, quad-shaped plan, occupies the corner of the neighborhood street Parcalab Vlaicu. Facades are beautiful done, crowned with triangular pediments. The main entrance is settled by a portion of the wall with different architectural ideas located at the corner of the building, crowned with a clock tower, that is an ancient symbol of urban self-administration. The Plastic decoration, based on the combination of forms of medieval Gothic and Renaissance specific for Tuscan, is active, represented by circular windows, corner towers. All facades are crowned by a cornice supported by brackets. On the main facade wall was installed a memorial plaque for the architect I.M.Bernardazzi.
