The Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden is situated near the city gates and was founded in the early twenty-first century, in the garden-park, planted on that territory in the middle of the nineteenth century, with the aim to scale all areas of spontaneous flora of Bassarabia. For the construction of the Botanical Garden in autumn 1950 was allocated 76 hectares of land on the valley Durlesti river, city park today - Dendrariu. But after five years from the original construction of this garden, appeared a series of negative factors, and in 1964, following the election of the director A. Ciubotaru, Botanical Garden has been moved to south-east of Chisinau, for this new location being allocated 104 ha. This new territory includes 24 types of soils with include groundwater.
Botanical Garden includes sectors that represents the main types of forest vegetation, steppe vegetation and aquatic vegetation of the Republic of Moldova, including rare and endanger plants. A special sector of this garden is dedicated to decorative plants.
Within Botanical Garden there are a few trees that are included in the list of natural monuments which are protected by state. Also there is a wooden gazebo and a fountain that were built in early 1889 by architect Bernardazzi, which were included in the list of architectural monuments of national importance. The Botanical Garden includes over 11,000 species.
Thanks to the values it detains, The Botanical Garden was declared a monument of landscape architecture and listed as state-protected natural area.
