Hunedoara Castle also called Corvin’s Castle is one of the most beautiful Ghotic style building. The castle lays on a rock where the river Zlasti runs around. Its history is related by Dracula that was in prison for seven years in this castle. It was constructed during the 12th-14th century and initially was a small citadel that was given by Sigismund to Vojk Hunyad, after his death the castle was developed and extended by his son, Ioannus Corvinus, who transformed the building in a spectacular Gothic fortress. Later the son of Ioannus Corvinus, Matei Corvin, who was the king of Hungary at that time, started to expend the castle too, giving an Renaissance style. During the 17 century Gabriel Bethlen, Transilavanian prince, extended the building even more, with baroque elements , builting a gate tower, a white tower and even he moved the main entry to the place that still exists nowadays.
The building is 13 floors high with rooms decorated in an exquisite style, some of the most beautiful are Knight’s Hall, Diet’s Hall, Guard rooms and sleeping Quarters. In 1974 the castle becomes a museums after the restaurations, including a great collection of old books, enthnography and archeological elements and decorative art that keep the glorious originality of the castle. The castle includes 42 rooms, 2 bridges, 2 platforms and covers over 7,000 square meters.to get to the castle the visitors must pass on a wooden brigde that is supported by 4 strong pylons. entering in the castle you can admire the Loggia Matia, then the Golden Chamber that keep items from the significant collection of the Corvin’s Castle. On the first level is located the „Princesses Living Room” where are displayed pieces of furniture dating from 19th century.
The castle is a famous building all over the world, being the most scary castle in Europe, still preserves the medival decorations and offers unbelievable moments once inside it. Surrounded by magnificent nature this place is full of charm and impresses everybody’s eyes with miraculous paintings or sculptures. It offers the great possibility to discover and explore the glorious history of the country, keeping the enigmatic spirit inside it. Especially the legend of Dracula intrigues many of the visitors that come here to see in reality how its looks this miraculous castle.
