Museum of Anthropology has the most interesting collection in Vancouver. The museum makes part from the University of British Columbia and includes elements of the culture of aboriginals from Pacific Northwest. This gorgeous museum will take a lot of time to explore its beautiful and unique pieces of art. As you enter in the museum, two carved wood doors will take you to the Great Hall.

The University of Columbia started to collect object, and during the time they gathered a big collection, but the special place for keeping them was not designet yet. So in 1927 the Government offered a grant that supposed to assure the construction of the museum.

Arthur Charles Erickson was the designer of the building, who took ideas from the houses were lived the aboriginal peoples. The museum include a large collection of anthropological objects as well as amazing artifacts from Africa and from the Orient. It has over 50,000 archaelogical pieces and 35,000 ethnographic pieces, which were collected from all over the world. The Museum of Anthropology is the ideal home for a permanent collection that includes objects from one of the First Nations of Coastal British Columbia. This collection i some of the most precious treasure that has the museum.

When entering the Great Hall you can see a Ramp that displayes all the objects starting with cedar plank houses where lived the British aboriginal, feas dishes, canoes, amazing carvings. There you will be fascinated by the Sculpture „The Raven and the Firts Men”that was designed by the well known artist Bill Reid. You can also explore the Koerner Ceramics Gallery that include a large collection of European Ceramic , that are unique in North America, as well as works and textiles made by artists from Vancouver city. The Ramp has 15 meters height and includes big object for showing to the public, as tall totem poles. Outside you can see the Haida House that was reconstructed and has a significant role for the museum.

The museum is also proud for having in its possession The Visible Storage Galleries that includes more that 15,000 objects, some of them come from around the world, from India, Africa, Central America, Japan. These all make the museum to be one of the attractive place while in Vancouver, with its rich collection of rare objects and especially impresess through its objects that relate the aboriginals life. It is the most interesting place to explore and find out more about the people that lived before us. The atmosphere is really majestic and full of charm, that make you to spend the time in a relaxant and pleasant ambiance.
