One of the most beautiful churches in Montreal is the Cathedral Mary, Queen of the World. This cathedral appeared like a small basilica in the Catholical church, after the fire burned the St. Jacques Cathedral. This sacred place is a copy of the St.Peter’s Basilica in Roma, because when bishop of the city in that time decided to built the church he sent Vistor Borgeau to Rome to study the style of basilica from Vatican. The construction started in 1875 and took 20 year to complete the cathedral. It was named St.Jacques Cathedral in the honor of the cathedral that was destroyed by fire in 1852. In 1955 this cathedral would be renamed in the honor of Mary, the Queen of the World, by the Pope Pius the XII.
The interior of the cathedral is stunning, having many elements in common with the Basilica fom Vatican. It has a high altar a copy of the Lorenzo Bernini’s baldachin that makes a great honor for the church. This baldachin was designed by Arthur Vincent and Olindo Gratton who made it from bronze covered by gold, offering an amazing view. The exterior of the church is gorgeous with those statues along the roof, that represent the 13 patrons saints who protect the Montreal. The dome of the cathedral is designed in a green colour that makes it unique and can be seen from a long distance.
This amazing cathedral for its unique and magnificent architecture always attracts millions of visitors and people who want to pray while in Montreal. It is the third largest churches in Quebec. It has a significant role in religious life of Montreal calling for pray many locals who found here the peace that they need.
