Niger is a country situated in Western Africa and shares borders with Algeria and Libya to the north, Burkina Faso and Mali to the west, Nigeria and Benin to the south, and Chad to the east. Niger is West Africa's largest state and about 80 percent of the territory is covered by Sahara desert.
Niger is a picturesque country that can be characterized by the multitude of civilizations, festivals and ancient architecture. The government has been promoting both international and domestic tourism since 1984. However, Niger remains a very poor country and for this reason, the pace of tourism development is low.
The major tourist attractions in Niger are: Naymer and Niger River area, which offer incredible natural scenery; Chad Lake area, where you can go fishing; town of Agadez with the famous streets featuring amazing Sudanese architecture and the Grand Mosquee located downtown; Tenere desert and Du W Du Niger National Park. You can also explore the Aïr Mountains, where you can enjoy watching wildlife, among which leopards, lions and giraffes. However, the typical landscape in Niger remains largely a desert landscape.
The best time to visit Niger is from December to February, when the weather is pleasant for walking and touring. From March to June, temperatures are very high, sometimes unbearable.
