Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is the oldest museum in all Canada. When the city of the Montreal was the biggest one in Canada a group of collectors decided to open a place where to show the art collections. They decided to build a building for art exhibition, in a school of art, and they started to earn money to make their plan come true. It took some time to gather sufficient funds to open the first gallery of art. In 1877 the association of the collectors received a important collection of paintings , land and some money, from Benaiah Gibb, so their dream came true finally.
In 1879 the association opened the doors to the first gallery and they started to gather more paintings from those who made these at the schoolr art. This was the first step in collecting paintings for the Canadian future museum. During the time the association received more private paintings so they decided to open a museum to include these all pieces of art. But at a later date they decided not to expand that museum but to built a new one, so it appeared covered by white marble, with decorated staircase in a very discreet style. There were built rooms for presenting the exhibitions, also a library, lecture room and free area for the students who would like to experience their abilities in art. This pavilion is known today as Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion.
During the time the museum added more pieces of art, paintings, especially made by Canadian artists, and international collections, form all over the world. In 1970 and in 1991 the museum suffered some changes for development. The creator of the last espansion was Moshe Safdie, who included a very modernist style. So he made an exquisite glass roof, he also has built a five floor stone and brick apartment that is connected to the other pavilion by a underground tunnel.
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts includes an exclusive arts collection from each corner of the world attracting millions of tourists. This spectacular piece of art impress for its amazing structure and its famous exhibitions, including national and international pieces of art, that are unique and very attractive.
