TransAmerica Pyramid is the tallest skyscraper in San Francisco. When the ideea of building such a landmark was given many citizens didn’t agree because San Francisco is more in a Victorian style not for skyscrapers. The architect William L.Pereira thought that the pyramid shape would be perfect for a skyscraper, and during the time this will become an architectural sculpture. Its construction started in 1969 and took 3 years to complete it, it has a height of 260 meters and 48 floors with 64 meters high spire on the top. For many years this building was housing the headquarters of the TransAmerica Corporation.
This grand building represents a huge four-sided pyramid with two wings. It has a elevator shaft on the east side and a smoke tower on the west side. Inside the buiding there were installed 4 cameras in 4 different directions on the top of the spire, that serve as a observation point. TransAmerica’s Pyramid top is covered by aluminium panels. The exterior of the building is covered in crushed quartz that keeps its white colour. The wings of the pyramid starts from 29th floor and include elevators and stairwells. This huge building has 3,678 windows, 16,000 cubic yards of concrete and is dedicated for business offices.
TransAmerica Pyramid is no longer the house of the TransAmerica Corporation but still keeps the Company’s logo. The building is now one of the symbols of San Francisco and seems to be meant to born there. It is a modern building with an exceptional design so when viewed from the East Bay you can see it like a perfect and unique skyline projection. It considers to be the 100th tallest buildings in the entire world.The TransAmerica Pyramid is very famous for its architecture, representing a wide base that becomes narrow when goes up, increasing the building’s stability.
