Plovdiv is a city in southern Bulgaria. The city is located on the Thracian Plain, along the coasts of the Maritsa River. Plovdiv is situated at a height of 160 meters above the sea level, about 150 km south of Sofia. The city is divided in two parts, The Old Plovdiv and The New Plovdiv. On the medieval streets, you could notice the grand buildings of the XIX century. The ancient buildings which are rebuilt in restaurants, cafes, bars ensemble a unique ambiance. In Plovdiv are almost 200 constructions which are recognised as monuments of history and protected by the Bulgarian authorities.

Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities, older then Rome, Athenes. Plovdiv is the second Bulgarian cultural, economic and administrative centre after Sofia. Its spectacular landscapes, historical munuments, cultural institutions create an impressive enchanting atmosphere. The city hosts art galleries, archaeological and ethnographic museums. In the exterior Plovdiv areas, is situated the Asenitsy Bachkovo Monastery, one of the most popular destinations in Bulgaria. Here you can see old icons from different periods, a collection of the first printed books.

One of the most spectacular places of the city is the Old Plovdiv. The ancient houses were built on one on another, with small balconies. In this part of town you can admire the Thracian Basilica and the Roman Baths, the Slavic churches and Muslim mosques. Also, here you can visit The Roman Forum, The Amphitheater, Constantine and Elene Cathedral, the National Revival. Here are preserved the ancient fragments of the urban forum, stadium, as well as one of the oldest in Europe, the clock tower.
