Malawi is a country situated in southeast Africa and shares borders with Tanzania to the north-east, Mozambique to the east, south and west and Zambia to the north-west.
Malawi attracts a large number of tourists every year with its natural wonders, famous parks and picturesque lake. Currently, a new project is implemented for the development of tourism and construction of new hotels. Although the country has a great tourism potential, it still faces poverty and a high population density.
Referred to as “the Warm Heart of Africa”, the country totally deserves this title, as the warmth of the people is world-known. The major tourist destinations are: the capital city of Lilongwe, Nkhata Bay Lake, Shire River valley; the city of Blantyre with numerous historical monuments and museums; Liwonde National Park and the nature reserves with a great diversity of wildlife. The topography of the country is dominated by Malawi Lake, which is the third largest lake in Africa. Set among rolling hills and rich in exotic vegetation, the lake is an irresistible tourist attraction for its beaches, water sports and exceptional variety of fish for those who love to do snorkeling. Also, make sure not to miss the Nyika Plateau, a high-altitude nature reserve located in the least visited part of the country, with beautiful plains, waterfalls, different species of lilies and the greatest concentration of leopards in Africa.
The best time to visit Malawi is during the dry season, from May to November, as the landscapes are more attractive when the weather is pleasant.
