Formerly known as Zaire, Democratic Republic of the Congo is a country situated in Central Africa. It ranks as the third largest country in Africa in terms of geographical area after Sudan and Algeria. The country shares borders with the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Burundi, Uganda and Rwanda to the east, Central African Republic and Sudan to the north, and Zambia and Angola to the south. To the east, Lake Tanganyika separates the country from Tanzania.
The beautiful Atlantic coastline extends on about 37 km, the beautiful scenery being completed by untainted wilderness, scattered with lush rainforests, smoking volcanoes and speedy rivers. However, some areas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo can be dangerous due to political instability and for these reasons tourists tend to avoid this country in Africa.
