Benin, formerly known as Dahomey, is a country situated in West Africa. It is bordered by Burkina Faso and Niger to the north, Nigeria to the east and Togo to the west. Its southern boundary is represented by coastline, where the majority of the population is concentrated.
Although it is a tiny country (this is a vantage point for tourists, as on short-distances there are many things to see), it has the most attractions in West Africa. The natural beauty, wildlife parks, historical sites, colorful places and vibrant ancient culture make Benin at least an interesting destination to explore in the area. The major tourist attractions in the country remain to be its two national parks, Pendjari and 'W' National Park, with a great range of wildlife. The beaches along the coast of Benin at Ouidah and Grand Popo are also preferred by most tourists. UNESCO has included the Royal Palaces of Abomey in the World Heritage List. Nevertheless, Benin remains to be a culture destination rich in history, featuring an exceptional cultural and ethnic diversity, expressed in its arts, music and dances. Although Benin has registered an economic growth in recent years, it still ranks among the world's poorest countries. However, it considered one of the most stable and safe countries to visit in the region.
Those who do not like rain so much can choose to visit Benin sometimes in April, June and middle of September until October. The hottest period is in February and April.
