  Taiwan is an island located in East Asia in the Western Pacific Ocean. Known rather for its technological advances than a great holiday spot, Taiwan remains an underrated destination in Asia, as it boasts a fascinating mix of technological innovation and ancient aboriginal cultures, diverse religions and cuisines -a world of contrasts and the perfect mingle of cultural influences.   The main tourist attractions that you should visit, while in Taiwan are: Alishan -the mountainous area; Sun Moon Lake - the largest lake in Taiwan, a major tourist attraction; the National Palace Museum, Taroko, Kenting, Love River, Shihlin Night Market, Huahsi Street Night Market, Taipei 101, Longshan Temple, Taroko Gorge. 
 
  In general, the best time to travel to Taiwan is autumn (September-November). Summer (June-August) is an excellent time to visit the coast, taking into account the possibility of typhoons between June and October. Chinese New Year period should be avoided as all facilities are closed.
