Afghanistan is a landlocked country located in south-central Asia. It shares borders with Pakistan in the south and east, Iran in the west, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in the north, and China in the northeast. The country has an important geostrategic location, connecting the Middle East with Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
A very picturesque country, Afghanistan was once full of hospitality, an expert in culinary menus, with a great wealth of stunning landscapes and hiking opportunities, but things have changed over time. After the terrorist attack in New York, USA in 2001, the territory of Afghanistan was invaded by American soldiers. Nowadays, Afghanistan is not on the list of recommended tourist destinations, at least until things don’t get better here and the tourism industry starts to develop.
Anyways, if you adventure yourself and want to pay a visit to the country, here are the places to stop at: Kabul - the capital city, a cosmopolitan city; Kandahar -the largest city in Afghanistan after Kabul; Band-e-Amir lakes -five brilliant and incredibly beautiful lakes, Minaret of Jam - a monument located in the valley of Koh-e-Baba mountains, found in 1940; the Panjshir Valley.
Before planning a trip to Afghanistan, one must take into account the political situation here. Regarding weather conditions, the best time is autumn (September-November) when the weather is nice and dry. From late November snow begins to fall and traveling around the country can become an unpleasant experience. Spring (March to May) can also be a nice time to travel here, but you will still need to face rain and melting of snow, which will make it more difficult to travel around the country.
