Holland is an inviting blend of tradition in the form of windmills and tulips and the fast pace of modern European life. Recently, the country consists of only a few islands, separated by some sand dunes to the North Sea. For centuries, these islands were connected to one another, with typical Dutch ingenuity and craftsmanship. The result is a level ground, green and silver, with almost half the territory and 16 million people above sea level. Perhaps no other country has not shown the close connection with the sea, after 2000 years of defense against this threat. Holland is without water as well as Saudi unimaginable without sand.
The correct name of the territory is the Netherlands. Dutch name refers only to the two provinces Noord-Holland (North Holland) and Zuid-Holland South Holland). The Dutch call their country Nederland, but recognize and name "Dutch" and the Netherlands as popular. Englishman 'Dutch for Netherlands is the result of a misunderstanding of the fifteenth century, when English does not distinguish between residents of the Netherlands and Germany - "Dutch" comes from "Deutsch" (German).
