Bordered by Austria and Switzerland, Liechtenstein is, along with Uzbekistan, a real landlocked country, since one need to cross the borders of two countries in order to reach the sea. It is also the only country that has German as official language, without having common borders with Germany, although the influence is not hard to understand, due to the historical context and geographical location. Although neighboring countries exert a quite great influence on the economy, culture and transport, people from this country are very proud of their origin and there is no greater mistake for a tourist than to confuse them with the Swiss, Austrians or Germans. If you speak German you must be prepared to talk in a dialect, rather close to the Swiss or the Austrian version. The most spoken foreign language is English, followed by French.
The main tourist attractions are: Vaduz -the capital, Malbun - mountain resort, Triesenberg - picturesque city located at a high altitude where you can enjoy excellent views on the Rhine Valley, Heimatmuseum.
Liechtenstein can be visited any time of the year, the busiest time period is summer months (June to September) because the weather is nice, but keep in mind that this is the most expensive period as well. April to May and September to October would be the ideal time for a cheaper and more peaceful holiday. Winter activities in the Alps start in November and end in April.
