Finland occupies the north-western region of Europe, being one of the most Nordic countries with almost one third of the territory located north of the Arctic Circle. It borders Norway to the north, Russia to the east, while on the south and west has access to the Golf of Finland and respectively Gulf of Bothnia. The capital and the largest city here is Helsinki.
The communication network is very well-developed (especially the inland transportation system). Most tourists come from Germany, Scandinavia, Russia, UK and USA. Worth visiting is the south part of the country, with the big cities Helsinki, the current capital, Turku (former capital) with a famous castle (XII-XIVth century), restored in the early '40s - '50, now a museum, and the cathedral of the city, the oldest in Finland; Lahti (a famous winter sports center), then the lakes area with Tampere, Hameenlinna, Savonlinna; Lapland with the North Pole. No matter the time of the year you choose to visit Finland, you will not regret it, because there is always something to do or visit, and most museums and commercial galleries are open all year round.
