The largest city in South America and the third most populated one in the world, with over 10 million inhabitants, Sao Paulo is Brazil's economic capital, but also one of the most important cultural centers in the region, with numerous museums and attractions. Sao Paulo Museum of Art is a must-see destination for all those who arrive in town, even if they are not very interested or connoisseur in the domain. The museum was founded in 1947 by Assis Chateaubriand and Pietro Maria Bardi.

Museum of Art in Sao Paolo displays a great number of important works, beginning with the Renaissance era up till today. In addition to the national collection of art, there can be admired one of the richest collections of impressionist paintings in the world. The museum is well-known in arts world for its collection of Western art, considered the finest in Latin America and all Southern Hemisphere. It also houses a series of Brazilian art, prints and drawings, as well as smaller collections of African and Asian art, antiquities, decorative arts. Its patrimony includes now more than 8,000 pieces. Among these, the collection of European art works stands out; the Italian School is represented by Raphael, Botticelli, Mantegna, Giovanni Bellini, Titian, Tintoretto, Perugino, Piero di Cosimo, Guido Reni, Guercino, while the French School is represented by François Clouet, Poussin, Nattier, Delacroix, Courbet, Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec. Italian and French art works form the main body of the art collection, followed by Spanish, Portuguese, Flemish, Dutch,English and German masters. Undoubtedly, the most valuable art works that can be admired here are those belonging to the great artists such as : C. Rembrandt, Goya, Monet, Gauguin, Renoir and Picasso.
