    Manulife Financial is a Canadian insurance company. It was founded in 1887 by Canadian Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald. Its head-office is in Toronto, Ontario. In 1897, it extended its operations in Asia, including China and Hong Kong.

   It now has offices in Canada, the United States (through its subsidiary John Hancock Insurance) and nineteen other countries and colonies around the world. It has 47,000 employees and agents1. It is the largest insurance company in Canada, the second in North America and fifth in the world by market capitalization.
