Kaziranga National Park was declared by the Indian government in 1974 and is part of World Heritage in 1985.
The oldest nature reserve in Assam, located about 200 km east from Guwahati, Kaziranga covers an area of 427.34 km square (with an additional area of 400 square kilometers) on the south bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra, is that shelter for nearly 60 Indian tigers. On the other hand, the original reservation provides shelter for about two-thirds of the total world population of rhinos with a horn.
The landscape of Kaziranga includes virgin forests, the elephant grass, reeds, marshes, shallow ponds, etc.. Wild inhabitants, besides rhinos, tigers and leopards, also include: wild buffalo, elephants, wild boars, buffaloes, gibbons, buffalo, swamp deer, Asian deer, jackals, monkeys, birds, geese, varieties of snakes, reptiles, etc. ., according to an official accounting of the forest department of Assam.
