Sevilla City Hall or Ayuntamiento is located between Plaza of San Francisco and Plaza Nueva. It was built in the early 16th century a local renaissance. In the 15th century the 24 delegates forming the Seville city council shall meet at the Plaza de la Virgen de Los Reyes near the Giralda Tower. After Sevilla won the New World trade monopoly in 1503, it was decided that the city has gained much importance for the officials to meet in open air and then they started plans to build a mayor. The chosen location for the building, then known as the Palace of the consistory, was historic San Francisco market.

Its onstruction began in 1527 under the supervision of Diego de Riano and was finished seven years later. Façade of the building bordering the Plaza de San Francisco is a wonderful decorated in a style known as "plateresque", a version of Renaissance decoration characterized by more complicated. The façade is decorated with the mythical and historical figures, including Hercules, the founder of the Seville and Julius Caesar, who rebuilt the city after defeating Pompey there.
