Maria Luisa Park

Maria Luisa Park was founded in the late 19th century. This oasis offers residents and tourists who visit Seville but the city can relax in a shady place during hot summer months. Some very beautiful buildings, a legacy of the 1929 World Expo which was held in Seville, there are scattered through the entire park.

This rather large park is located near the historic center of Seville. Green is the most important of the entire city, richly decorated with benches, fountains, pools, statues and monuments. Exist even a small mountain, Monte Gurugu, with a waterfall and a small artificial island and a kiosk. Mostly tourists go directly to the main attraction of the park: Plaza de Espana, a majestic complex crescent shape arranged around a central squares.

The park is named after Princess Marie Louise d'Orleans, who donated land and gardens associated with the San Telmo Palace, the city of Seville in 1893. Initial project of the park, with wide paths and plenty of fountains and monuments, was implemented in 1911 and 1914 by landscape architect Jean-Claude Forest.

In 1929 Seville hosted the exhibition Iberico-American Maria Luisa park land. This demonstration was intended to give a fillip to the local economy and improve ties with former colonies of Spain, who all have impressive pavilions built here, and many of them there today. Differently than most such events, the exhibition of 1929 were designed pavilions that were not designed for long-term and temporary exhibitions at rest. In most halls, construction began 20 years before the start of the fair. Consequently, a large number of flags have been preserved over time and are now used as museums, consulates, offices, office and cultural institutions. The buildings are grouped around two squares, Plaza de Espana and Plaza of the Americas. Both were designed by the same architect, Anibal Gonzalez, a mixture of architectural styles.

The piece de resistance of Iberico-American Exposition of 1929 and one of the top attractions of Seville is beautiful Plaza de Espana, an impressive complex arranged around a central squares. Some decorated with ceramic bridges crossing the small channel separating massive brick building market.

Former three pavilions, all designed by Anibal Gonzalez found in other markets around the Plaza de America, a market with beautiful flower beds and a lake in the middle. Each of the three buildings have their own architectural style. Little Royal Pavilion, located in the northern part of the market, was designed in a flamboyant Gothic style, while the Fine Arts Pavilion, which now hosting Archaeological Museum was built in a Renaissance style. Mudejar Pavilion, now the Museum of Traditions Andalusia, he can see in the east and west of the Plaza de America.
