Glacier National Park is a U.S. national park located in the U.S. state of Montana. Founded in 1910 and an area of 4 101 km ², it is bordered to the north by the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia.
The park consists of mountain sheltering dozens of glaciers, lakes and hundreds of thousands of plant and animal species, is one of the best preserved ecosystems in the country. It is part of a larger protected ecosystem (44 000 km ²) called "The Ecosystem of the crown of the continent". With the Canadian National Park Waterton Lakes, since 1932 he formed the International Peace Park Waterton Glacier. This region consists of two parks has been designated by UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage in 1976 by 19,954.
The park is traversed by the famous road Going-to-the-Sun Road, which crosses the Continental Divide while allowing visitors to enter the heart of dense forests and grasslands alpines. This road and five hotels from the early twentieth century are classified National Historic Landmark, while 350 other buildings are part of the National Register of Historic Places.
