Ajuda Palace in Lisbon is an exuberant extravaganza. Though construction of this palace was not completed as planned due exilarii royal family in Brazil, caused by the invasion of armies of Napoleon, is still one of the most beautiful romantic buildings in Europe.
The interior is decorated with furniture, tapestries, sculptures and decorative art extravaganza. All are the result of endless wealth of the 18th century when diamonds were discovered in Brazil, the Portuguese colony at that time.
Notable are the ceiling of the Winter Garden was a gift from the viceroy of Egypt, Chamber Music and its precious porcelain, Ball Room and the Chamber Ambassadors. But most impressive Throne Room is actually occupying the entire south wing of the palace. Dining room that evening is decorated with crystal chandeliers, seats wrapped in silk and allegorical fresco on the ceiling there is the birth of King Joao VI. Tourists will notice for sure and very interesting collection of clocks scattered all over the palace. Table service is one of the few royal meal services in Europe are still intact.
Main entrance are 23 marble statues, each representing a particular attribute, such as generosity and gratitude. Here there is a monument dedicated to King Carlos. A tower of a church can be seen here. Is all that remains of the demolished church church called Nossa Senhora da Ajuda.
