   El Morro National monument is the most beautiful geographical area in New Mexico, located on the west side of the state. This sandstone monolith zone is also known as “Inscription Rock”, as all the travelers and visitors have graved their names, and memories on its smooth face. This large rock has been a part of the monument for seven hundred years. During the time the tourist  left their stories and inscriptions that can be seen even today. El Morro comes from Spanish and means headland, and represents a high point of about 7,200 feet above sea level. The most popular attraction seats on the top of the El Morro, it is a huge pueblo, that includes 865 rooms, dating since the 13th century. The inhabitants of the pueblo did not live there for a long period, but their artifacts have been preserved till today, and can been admired on the pot of the El Morro. The area was populated by the Europeans later, used as source of clear water and as a pitoresque landmark. 

 
  On the El Morro peak the melted snow and the rain have formed a basin, that serves as a source of water for the animals and also for the people that are in that area. El Morro National Monument is perfect for visiting the year-around , excepting the winter, when the snow and the wind won’t allow to see its beautiful landscape, or to walk through the trails. El Morro became a monument in 1906, and meant to preserve the Inscription Rock. The rock covers a surface of about 12 acres, with a triangle base . During the centuries on the rock were writing with many instruments, carved the history, and left the memory that those people passed on the area, for example many western explorers. There are many holes on the rock that served for the Indians to climb the rock to obtain the potable water.
 
  The Visitor Center on the El Morro Monument, is open every day  from 9am till 7pm, the trails are open from 9am till 6pm, offering the possibility for visitors to explore this amazing region, full of glorious history and memorable moments. Another interesting destination on the El Morro includes the Museum, which shows over 700 years of human occupancy at El Morro. The visitors are provided with water and restroom facilities. This imposant monument includes two trails, one of them being paved providing with wheelchair facilities. The other trail, the Mesa Top Trail is not paved and offers the possibility for the small children to explore this gorgeous and spectacular zone. This amazing monument includes 1,278,000 acres , from which 1,039,92 acres are federal land protected by the Government. El Morro National Monument is a very important educational center and also a place full of wonderful ancient monuments. Now is not not allowed for anyone to carve the monument, because is protected by law, and preserves the ancient history of the old villages with their settlers. This enigmatic and charming monument is surrounded by a very misterious spirit intriguing everyone to find out more and more about the place’s history. It is truly fascinating monument, impressing each visitor for its pitoresque landscape.
