Borobudur Temple, located 42 miles northwest from the Javanese province, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. It is built in the shape of pyramid with a square base of 118 m long. Borobudur was considered a "kumagara" (covered structure) and agreed to be dwelling on when Sakyamuni Buddha is in the womb. Temple builders wanted Buddha's teachings to be represented visually. At the same time we wanted to suggest this Sakyamuni's power through the building structure. Borobudur temple founders' intent was expressed and mighty cosmic essence of Buddha. Borobudur name comes from the Sanskrit word "Buddha Vihar Uhr" which means Buddhist monastery on the hill (height).
